Progress
Since the inception of LIA Tanzania in the spring of 2013, we have cared for approximately 75 children on an ongoing basis. The model remains the same: LIA provides financial support for these children, many of which have no parents, in foster households run mainly by a surviving relative of the child.
Much of the effort of LIA’s board has been toward the goal of making the organization self-sustaining. We have chosen agriculture as the engine for making this part of our vision a reality. We have invested in land and equipment, employed members from local communities to work the land, built structures, and raised crops that we sold mostly in Dar Es Salam. We have faced many challenges, learned lessons, and made progress.
The path forward calls for expanding the scope of operations and gaining efficiencies.
